Breastfeeding and Birth Plans

Let me first start out by saying that everyone can do what they want. I’m not trying to bash the choices of any other mother out there, so please don’t take anything is say in this post as a slight against your parenting. Do I disagree with the choices some people make? Of course, but it’s their right to make those choices, regardless of what I think.

Shawn and I went to our prenatal class this past Saturday, and it got me thinking more about my breastfeeding plans, and what I want to do during my actual labour and Birth process. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been planning to breastfeed. I’m not one of those militant Breastfeeding advocates who will shoves my boobs down the throats of the unsuspecting masses in public and shame anyone who doesn’t want to to do it, but I am a firm believer that breast is best.

There are so many benefits for both mum and baby when it comes to Breastfeeding, that I don’t see why more women don’t keep it up for as long as possible, especially if they’re staying home with their little ones. Sure, I’m expecting it to be time consuming and occasionally onerous, but I want our son to get the most from his feedings that he can, and the added benefits to me, such as faster pregnancy weight loss

  1. Very true! There are so many benefits to breastfeeding, and while not everyone is able to keep it up for as long as they want, it is determination such as yours that certainly helps the process!

    • Thank you!

I had my last appointment with the obstetric medicine clinic at my hospital, and luckily for me, all of my medications are breastfeeding safe (with a relative infant dose of under 2% for each one). I’m looking forward to starting that stage of this journey.
