We had a wicked storm last night. It was awesome to watch, but my head didn’t like it at all. That is why there was no post yesterday, for which I apologize. In spite of my head being out of whack, the storm was amazing to watch. There were points where the sky seemed to be made of lightning. The rain got so intense that it actually started coming in the windows of our basement suite. Then it started to hail, and the ice pellets bouncing off the the metal of the window wells made quite the racket.
Odie did not like it, at all. He couldn’t decide whether he wanted to lie on the couch with me, hide in the bedroom, or lay in the middle of the hallway where he could see everything. I feel so bad for the guy when it thunders. He’s a fraidy cat as it is, but the big noises really make him in to a big baby. Watching a 23 pound cat have a massive spaz because of a little noise is both adorable and a little pathetic.
The funny thing about all this is that it wasn’t supposed to rain at all this week. I don’t think we’ve had a single day without some sort of shower. That just goes to show you how accurate predicting the weather in Alberta is. Oh, that’s right. It isn’t. It’s supposed to be 25C and clear tomorrow, which would be perfect for our friends coming over for dinner, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Eating inside is always an option. I even cleaned the house.
Now, in spite of being tired as hell yesterday from the migraine and all the housework I’ve been doing, I had a terrible night. I couldn’t settle down, and when I did get to the point where I felt like I could nod off, I was plagued by gas pains that made me want to crawl in to a tub of scalding water and never get out. Putting a pillow under my belly helped, but the support just wasn’t there, and a regular pillow, no matter what kind of pillow it is or what kind of case I put on it, just won’t stay where I put it. It’s also not the best thing for my back. Can you tell I’m having so much fun with this whole pregnancy thing?
Today I decided, while we were out running errands, that we were going to stop at Baby’s R Us and get a wedge pillow. I picked up a Jolly Jumper Pregnancy Pillow for about $19 and managed to have the best nap I’ve had since getting pregnant. I didn’t think a little wedge of foam would make such a difference. I was mistaken. It offers just the right amount of support, stays in place (the terry cloth cover has just enough grip to prevent slipping), and isn’t huge. I had a good feeling about it when I took it out of the package and Milo immediately tried to claim it for her own. The nap proved that it was a sound investment. I’m currently using it to support my back in my computer chair, and it’s doing a fabulous job.
For less that $20, it’s definitely worth picking one up, even if it helps you get a slightly better rest. Regular pillows can do the job, but I was having more problems with them than it was worth. Aside from my maternity jeans, this is my favourite pregnancy purchase so far.
I also got a snazzy new compact gaming keyboard. It’s a Roccat ARVO, and I’m in love with it. For the amount of PC gaming that I do, it’s perfect. It has enough hot keys to be functional, but not so many that I have a bunch of crap on my keyboard that I’m never going to use. It’s also the perfect size for using with my laptop. The keys feel great, are quite, and have a great tactile feel. Typing on it is a little awkward at the moment, because of the compact size, but it’s not really proving to be a problem and I’m sure I’ll have no issues adapting. I grabbed it from Memory Express for $49.99, and I highly recommend it, especially if you’re going to be using it for gaming as well as everyday use.
